Trip Overview

Our tour starts with a short and comfortable bus ride from Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. As we drive, enjoy views of the Tierra Mayor Valley including impressive mountain peaks and the area’s abundant and historic peat bogs.

This is an active hiking experience for those who enjoy walking in the woods and making contact with nature. The difficulty of this Patagonia trekking experience comes from the type of terrain, and not so much the presence of steep slopes. In fact, the inclination of the trail is very smooth until you get closer to the lagoon, where it becomes more demanding for a short distance.

Our Patagonia expedition will take us through iconic Nothofagus forests and then across a peat bog, which can be very wet. Only if the guide considers it necessary, they will offer you rain boots (wellies) to ford some of the swampy areas. In any case, we recommend wearing adequate footwear for this tour. Along the way, your eco-tour guide will provide a natural interpretation of the habitats we’ll see and provide some trail snacks!

Arriving at Esmeralda Lagoon, at the foot of the Ojo de Albino glacier, you’ll see the emerald-green water blend with the copper-red of the peat bogs. The Austral-summer’s late setting sun reflects off of the surrounding Patagonian mountains. This provides the perfect setting for our dinner of lentil stew. Relax, recharge, and convene with nature in this peaceful location, before beginning our descent. Walking back out of the woods through a magical southern sunset is an enchanting experience. Our comfortable journey home will bring us back to Ushuaia around 22:00 hours.
