About the weather
The weather in Ushuaia can change by the minute! Please be ready for all types of weather and note that our itinerary may change due to the conditions.
This day trip from Ushuaia offers a full tour of the Beagle Channel from the comfort of a leisurely yacht. Sit back and relax, either on the spacious deck or inside the heated cabin, and enjoy unparalleled views of this remote location. This tour also offers an unrivaled opportunity for birdwatching in Argentina including a walk with the penguins on Martillo Island and transportation back to Ushuaia.
We’ll set sail from a local seaport and head towards Alicia island, where we will find a colony of South American sea lions. From there, we’ll sail east to the aptly named Bird Island. There we can spot king shags, imperial shags, Magellanic cormorants, imperial cormorants, giant albatrosses, fullman, petrels, skuas, and around 20 different species of seabird. Continuing east, we might just be lucky enough to spot a colony of South American fur seals. On our way across the Channel, our view will be all sea and mountains and, if the weather allows, you might spot Mount Olivia, the Five Brothers, and the Encajonado river.
Next, we’ll see the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, on an archipelago of the same name. This lighthouse, built in 1919, is an authentic symbol of Ushuaia. Disembark at Harberton harbor and take the 15 minute trip to Martillo Island on a semi-rigid boat. On Martillo Island, we’ll spend an hour walking among a colony of Gentoo and Magellanic penguins. While on the island you’ll always stay with your guide and on authorized trails, so as not to disturb the habitat of these cute seabirds. The penguins have little to no fear of people and will pay attention as they waddle around right next to you.
We’ll wrap up our tour with a visit to the Acatushún Museum. In this natural history museum, you’ll learn about Patagonia’s animals both past and present. After the museum, we’ll then take our comfortable bus transfer back to Ushuaia.
